Research Task (magazine cover1)

Genre: Pop
The target audience for this magazine would be people between the their late teens and 30, this is because Ciara is in her mid 20’s therefore people of similar ages would be able to relate to her and the music which she produces, therefore people of these similar ages would be the main target audience for Ciara’s music. Moreover target audience would be anyone who has an interest in Pop music as Ciara is a known Pop singer therefore people would most likely associate her with Pop.
The main image of the magazine cover is the famous singer Ciara, Ciara is placed right in the middle of the magazine cover where she takes up the most space on the A4 page. There are no other images on the magazine cover; there are only caption and words. This shows that the magazine is trying to show that the magazine edition is mainly focused on the singer, and that they focus on making Ciara the main attention of the magazine, which is why they made sure not to include in other images which might grab the attention away from Ciara. The image is of the famous singer Ciara this relates to the genre as she is already a Pop known singer therefore it shows great relation to the genre of the magazine.
The image is framed right in the middle of the magazine cover; this shows that Ciara is the central point of the magazine. The image framing shows that she should be the main attention of the magazine, this then links back to the genre of the magazine as for its pop genre to be viewable to the target audience this framing is used. Placing the image in the middle makes it the main attention of the magazine and it is also the first thing the audience see, therefore they are more likely to know the genre of the magazine. The image framing gives an effect that the main focus of the magazine is pop.
The dress in which Ciara is wearing is dark grey or black, these colours are usually associated with parties or night concerts, this then enforces the music genre. The dress is also shiny this further enforces the effect of concert and pop genre as these types of dresses are commonly worn on party nights or at concerts, therefore this further enforces the music genre of which Ciara has. This shows the mood of the image as pop and exciting as the shiny colours are always suggesting brief excitement over something. Excitement is usually linked and seen with music as these are mainly the times when music is used, therefore this enforces the mood of pop music greatly.
The image of the pop singer Ciara relates to the target audience of the magazine as Ciara is of the similar ages in which the magazine is aimed at. Furthermore the main genre of the music which has the target audience of people who are interested in any sort of pop music, links to the image as Ciara is a pop singer, and she is also famous therefore known to many and therefore grabs the target audiences attention when seen on the magazine cover.
Language:
The name of the magazine is Billboard. Billboard is the name given to something which is usually a large surface which advertises different things, but however seen as very big as it advertises things that get to wider audiences and by the public as it is usually placed somewhere where it is visible to most people. Giving the magazine this name shows that the magazine is very popular and known and that the information in it is very exclusive and big therefore people are more likely to enjoy the content of the magazine. The name billboard appeals to the target audience as this language is more likely to be easy for the people between those ages to relate to the sort of language and understand it fully.
The content that is advertised by the strap lines relates to the genre of the magazine as Ciara’s news of her album and what her future decisions about her career, this relates to the target audience as they would want to know the famous singers decisions and news about what she has to offer to her fans. Moreover a strap line about the Jonas Brothers is advertised this shows clear link with the genre of pop as the band is a pop band therefore this indicated to audiences what content the magazine will maintain.
Bold white arial rounded typeface has been used throughout the magazine. This typeface makes the magazine clearer to read, and it also shows the most important aspects of the strap line which need to be read at the front cover, for the audience to have a bit of a clear insight of the content of the magazine and what it might also advertise. Furthermore the typeface is also eye catching therefore people would be able to read it straight away and predict the genre and the content of the magazine.

Preliminary task(Research)

Within the preliminary task i have to create a school magazine cover and it's contents page, however before starting to create the task I have to undertake some research which gives me a slight idea of what school magazines should look like and what conventions they follow. I have started by researching the school magazine cover called OPHS.

I have looked at this school magazine cover in some depth, the magazine cover includes a common colour theme which is of green and yellow. The magazine cover also includes a  medium shot of two students at the front showing they are the main attraction within the magazine cover.  The name of the magazine is written in big bold letters and placed on the top left of the page which makes it clear and makes it stand out clearly.

Little captions are then added at the bottom left of the magazine and are of black bold text so they are also easily visible, to people.
